The Turing test is a test that determines if an artificial intelligence is smart enough to pass as human. It was invented in the 1950s by the British mathematician Alan Turing.

In Disney’s animated version of the popular children’s tale, “Pinocchio,” the puppet sets off to explore the world. Each encounter he has is a test to see if he can transform into a real boy.

The Turing test is essentially a more rigid, sophisticated, and less entertaining version of Pinocchio’s exploits. In the end, the AI is assessed if it is convincingly human and can interact with real people — without them noticing.
