Unsupervised learning is a machine learning technique. It takes place when a machine is able to analyze data patterns previously unspecified by humans and subsequently decide on a particular desirable course of action.

To illustrate, let’s say a dog realizes that when his master goes to the garden, she will pick a ball to play. After having some fun, the dog then rolls over to please the master, something she didn’t teach the dog to do but which makes her very happy. What the dog did is an example of unsupervised learning.
