By now, you may know that artificial intelligence (AI) makes it possible for even nonwriters to write. The only potential challenge they can face? They may still need to know how to humanize AI content.

Before you can learn how you can make AI-generated content sound more like you, you need to know what computers can actually compose that won’t be perceived as such. That said, we compiled a list of such tasks below.

7 Content-Related Tasks AI Can Do

If you solely rely on AI to write, there is a good chance your content may be flagged as plagiarized. And while search engines like Google do not penalize AI-generated content by giving it a lower search ranking, it does focus on quality. And let us face it, content that reads spammy or is poorly written (e.g., sounds like it was written by a nonprofessional writer) would definitely not appear as a top search result.

That does not mean that AI cannot help out with content creation, though. So, if you want to keep your brand’s voice while jumping on the automation bandwagon, you can use AI to speed up the tasks below instead.

1. Researching Content Ideas

AI algorithms can be trained to analyze text and identify patterns relevant to a particular topic. Say, for instance, that you want to look for published reports on AI and its practical applications. You can enter a prompt like “Look for articles on AI and its uses. List the sources and their URLs. ” into an app. The app will provide the results for you. Take a look at the sample result below.

In this scenario, you now have a list of articles to get inspiration and content ideas from.

2. Organizing Content

Many providers now offer AI outline generators that help create structured and organized outlines for essays, reports, and other written content. Such apps analyze your topic and critical points to generate a logical framework to streamline your writing process. Using our example above, you can use the prompt “Create an outline for an article on AI and its uses using this list of sources: (Paste the research results the app provided).” This should give a result similar to the one below.

You can use other prompts if you want to focus on a single industry instead of covering various sectors.

3. Generating Text

Almost all AI apps today offer text generation services. You can ask it to write a blog post, for instance, on the topic in our example by typing “Write an 800-word article on what AI is and its uses in various industries using this outline: (Paste the outline the app created earlier).” You will get something like this as a result.

4. Optimizing Content

All companies that maintain websites optimize their content so they stay on top of search engine results. That is where AI search engine optimization (SEO) comes in. In case you do not know what it does, AI SEO tools analyze webpage performance and content quality. They then provide recommendations to improve ranking factors like backlinks, keywords, and user experience.

Using our existing example, optimize your content using the prompt “Optimize (Paste the article) for search engines.” You will get a result similar to the one below.

Unlike the basic post you got from text generation, this optimized version is formatted following a proper heading hierarchy and includes backlinks to webpages with high Domain Authority (DA). Note that such pages can improve your website’s ranking as well.

5. Creating Basic Graphics

Several AI-assisted design software can help writers create their own images to enhance their content’s appeal. Midjourney, Dall-E, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Firefly, Stable Diffusion, and ChatGPT are some examples of these tools. While the creative outputs may not be of the same quality as those created by graphic designers, these software can make many aspects of the design process faster and easier.

Take a look at the image that ChatGPT created for the article in our example with the prompt “Create an image for this article: (Paste the article).”

6. Editing Basic Videos

Videos, like photos, also make content pieces more appealing not just to readers but also search engines. But not all companies have video creators or editors or writers who can produce videos. AI tools can come in handy in this case, too. They can rely on apps like Sora, Runway, or Descript.

7. Transcribing Audio

Some articles you may want to produce could require interviews and direct and indirect quotes from them. That means recording the interviews and transcribing them afterward. AI can help with that, too. AI-powered transcribers convert spoken audio into text by using automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology. This feature, however, is not readily available in most AI tools. You will need to either hire a service provider or use specialized tools like Otter.ai, Sonix, Trint, Rev, or Descript.

Now that you’ve learned what AI can really do, find out how to make the tools’ work sound more human.

How to Humanize AI Content

Here’s a checklist to help you humanize AI content. Make sure to answer these questions with a “yes” and you’re good to go.

  1. Did you inject emotion and personality?
  2. Did you vary sentence length and structure?
  3. Did you use conversational language?
  4. Did you add real-world examples and analogies?
  5. Did you match your brand’s tone and voice?

By following the checklist above, you can help ensure that your content appears natural and credible to both search engines and readers.

While many AI tools can help users with or without writing experience create content, they may not all be able to make written pieces sound human-like. There are, however, tools that can help with humanizing content if you or your team do not have the time or resources to do so.
